How we track turnarounds

Turnaround schedules are rarely published. We build each entry from public clues and label it by how solid the evidence is. Every entry links to its sources so you can judge for yourself. Last updated .

Confidence labels

Confirmed The company or an official body said it: an operator press release, investor guidance, earnings report, community flaring/noise notice, or regulator filing.

Likely Credible secondary sources: local news, trade press, union hall work reports listing a crew call at a named site, or contractor posts about the job. Dates can slip.

Estimated Inferred, not reported: based on a unit's typical cycle (crude units often run 4–6 years between turnarounds) and its last known turnaround. Shown hatched on the timeline. We never present an estimate as a date.

Typical Not reported. It's a list of services a scope like this usually needs (e.g. a reformer job usually means catalyst handling, refractory, heat treating, nitrogen, cranes, scaffolding), written for subcontractors and suppliers. It's general industry knowledge, not information about that specific job.

Where the information comes from

  • Union work reports. Building-trades halls (e.g. Boilermakers Local 128 Sarnia) publish monthly lists of upcoming jobs by site, contractor, start month, crew size and duration. These are the best early signal, often 6–12 months ahead. Crew counts here are boilermaker calls unless stated; the other Sarnia locals don't publish public work reports.
  • Company notices. Investor guidance and quarterly results (e.g. Imperial's annual turnaround outlook), plus community notices about planned flaring and noise.
  • Local and trade news. Sarnia News Today, The Sarnia Journal, The Sarnia Observer, and trade wires that pick up community alerts.
  • Regulator records. Ontario's Environmental Registry and O. Reg 88 quarterly reports, for context on major work.
  • Your tips. Checked against a second source before publishing. Send one.

What this isn't

We have no access to any operator's internal schedule. Dates are approximate windows. Don't make safety, travel or hiring decisions on this alone; confirm with the site or your hall.
